Energy Rates Are Rising

Electricity rates will necessarily skyrocket” – Obama

It’s become more challenging and expensive for utility companies to produce cheap electricity. And it is just as difficult and costly to bring that electricity to your home. Demand on the grid is rapidly growing, operating costs are increasing, and unionized utility companies are making millions. Additionally, infrastructure investment costs (what it takes to maintain the grid), are forecasted to be around $14 billion dollars a year in the near future. Any and all costs get passed to the consumer.

Go Solar before tax credits expire and avoid rate hikes with utility company

Government Incentives

Federal, state and local governments offer incredible financial incentives to encourage homeowners and business owners to invest in renewable energy. These incentives dramatically lower the cost of a solar installed system and can make the difference in turning your investment into a profitable one.  Click on the arrows below for more details

California & Utility Incentives

The California state government and utility companies offer some cash rebates at the time of installation. These rebates can reduce the cost of your system by up to 15%. Many cities and utilities in California offer additional or alternative incentives, including LADWP, Anaheim Public Utilities (cash systems only), San Francisco, SMUD, Silicon Valley Power, and Alameda Municipal Power. These additional rebates can add up to thousands off your system. The available rebates and incentives list is constantly changing, but rest assured that we will get you any and all incentives available. We’ll make sure that you will get all these savings reflected in your switch to Solar.

Credits & Rebates

The government wants homeowners to switch to Solar. They even created incentives and rebates to make the switch to solar more cost effective then your local utility company. There are a variety of financial incentives and subsidies to encourage your choice to cleaner, more affordable electricity. Freedom Solar will handle all the paperwork to ensure that the credits are reflected in the low price of your payments. You’ll capitalize on all the free money without the hassle.

Federal Incentives

The Investment Tax Credit (ITC) reduces the cost of your system by 30%! As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, this tax credit was extended through 2016. This creates significant savings on all financing options.

Environmental Benefits

We use vast amounts of energy to heat and cool our homes and businesses. Electricity is the largest source of energy that our society depends on. A majority of that energy has come from the combustion of fossil fuels, such as oil, natural gas, and coal. Everyone knows these resources will end someday; and that burning these fuels releases gases and other particles. Cleaner and Greener Solar energy reduces this negative effect on our environment greatly.

Solar Reduces Air Pollution

When fossil fuels are burned, particulate matter is released into the air, regardless of efforts to reduce these emissions. The result can affect the environment in the form of smog, and in certain cities, this can pose serious health problems for residents. Also, carbon monoxide is created when fuel combustion is incomplete. This gas is a health hazard, even in low doses. Energy produced by solar systems does not contribute to air pollution.

No Effect On Climate

Greenhouse gases, notably CO2 (carbon dioxide), are produced when fossil fuels are burned. Many scientists now believe these gases may be affecting our climate. CO2 can create a “greenhouse effect” in the atmosphere, causing global warming. This may lead to an increase in hurricanes, flooding and other weather conditions that can result in injuries, deaths and loss of property. No combustion takes place in solar energy systems.

Less Nuclear Waste

Nuclear energy is one alternative to burning fossil fuels, and some consider it to be a “green energy” source, along with solar. However, nuclear waste is produced as a by-product, which is dangerous and must be safely stored somewhere for very long periods of time. It also has the risky potential to explode and cause great harm to the environment. The benefit of generating energy using solar technologies is that no waste products are produced.

No Effect On The Landscape

Some coal is obtained by “strip mining,” where a large surface area of ground is stripped of vegetation. Flooding can be made worse by this process, especially when it is done on mountains, which has caused great loss of property in some areas.

Coal, natural gas and oil are limited resources, which we are using up at an incredible rate. Developing countries are now adding to the demand for these fuels. Also, oil is used in many ways other than producing energy, such as in the manufacturing of plastic products, thus using oil reserves even faster. Solar energy from the sun is unlimited.

Unlimited Resource

Nuclear energy is one alternative to burning fossil fuels, and some consider it to be a “green energy” source, along with solar. However, nuclear waste is produced as a by-product, which is dangerous and must be safely stored somewhere for very long periods of time. It also has the risky potential to explode and cause great harm to the environment. The benefit of generating energy using solar technologies is that no waste products are produced.

Increase Home Value

A number of studies have shown that installing solar systems on residential homes increases the value of those homes.  Click on the tabs below for more detailed information about how installing a solar system on your home can increase your home’s value.

Solar Increase Home Resale Value and Marketability

LAWRENCE BERKELEY NATIONAL LABORATORY

A recent study released in April 2011 by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory found that solar boosts the resale value of both new and old homes.

Researchers compared the prices of about 2,000 solar homes sold in California between 2000 and 2009 to those of 70,000 comparable homes without solar panels.

• On average, a home solar system added about $5.50 per watt to a home’s resale value. (A 3.1-kilowatt solar system can add around $17,000 to the home’s value).
• On existing homes, solar panels increased resale value by more than $6 per watt.
• On new homes with solar pre-installed, solar panels increased resale value by around $2.30 to $2.60 per watt to the sale price.

ICF Consulting Study

Another study by ICF Consulting found that saving $1,000 per year on energy costs can add $20,000 to a home’s resale value. Because energy savings increase as electricity prices rise, the value of a residential solar system also appreciates over time.

Solar Panels Help Sell Homes Faster

According to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy, a solar home will sell twice as fast as a home without solar panels – even in depressed markets. This has lead to major home builders including solar on the home and heavily advertising it.

Shea Homes Case Study

According to Shea Homes, the home resale value of California solar homes increased 55% while the home value of non-solar homes increased 45% during the same time period.

Lennar Homes Case Study

Lennar Homes demonstrated that home resale value of solar homes increase more quickly than non solar homes in early 2007. “Within eight communities that had homes without solar in Rocklin, CA, an average of 1.9 homes sold each month compared to a ninth community with solar homes which sold an average of 4.6 homes per month over the same time period.”

Logically Thinking

What is more valuable: A home that has cheaper electricity prices or a home that has more expensive electricity prices? As costs continually increase, it is nice to know there is a simple, no cost, solution to saving money and increasing home value.
